Community

Coming together for a greater purpose…

In 2004 u-won-te’ savior started a small poetry event that has now grown to be a poetry art and jazz event. It is one of the most popular uplifting events in the Dallas Fort Worth area. This public event was created as a venue for a melting pot of inspirational local artists to showcase their talents and to raise money for homelessness. With so many negative events to choose from, we felt obligated to do our part and be a spark of light in this dark generation. This Poetry, Art & Jazz Charity Event is put on every October and has now become a growing tradition for a dying world looking for change.

Community Involvement

Since it seems like on every other street corner in America there is a homeless person asking for change in December of 2011 we decided to spare and spark some change starting in our own community. Companies and other nonprofits are stepping over each other to show what they are doing to help kids and students but what about the elderly? The population of Americans 65 and older will double its estimated number of 84 million by 2050, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Not only does u-won-te’ savior go out and serve the homeless under highway bridges and street corners. We also go to senior living homes to serve the elderly who is another group of people who are often alone and forgotten. It is our pleasure to come up with creative ways to make them smile. We try to do so with food, clothing, toiletries, words of encouragement, bikes, tents, love notes, treats, hugs, art, music and more with both groups.

Improving senior living

A few months out of the year our staff visit senior living homes in the Dallas/Ft Worth area to do arts and crafts with the elderly, take them for walks and talks, caroling during the holidays. Many seniors don’t have remaining family or visitors all year. In the past, for our homeless and elderly projects, we have teamed up with our local charities, local high schools and junior high students, sororities like Sigma Lambda Gamma (DFWAA), and companies like Paul Mitchell, Health Care Associates, Boardwalk Pharmacy, local restaurant / food chains like McDonalds, Raising Canes and more have helped us with past projects throughout the community.
